Codex setup guide

Connect RingMyHuman to Codex.

Codex can connect directly to RingMyHuman's hosted MCP server. The desktop app, CLI, and IDE extension share the same MCP configuration on one computer.

Setup

Connect in a few deliberate steps.

  1. Prepare RingMyHuman

    Create an account, verify a call contact, and keep at least one Ringflow active. Copy the MCP URL from the dashboard.

  2. Add the server in Codex

    Open Codex Settings, choose MCP servers, select Add server, choose Streamable HTTP, and use RingMyHuman as the name.

  3. Save, restart, and sign in

    Save the server, restart Codex, and select Authenticate when RingMyHuman appears. Complete the secure browser sign-in and permission screen.

  4. Verify the tools

    Open the MCP status view or type /mcp. Confirm RingMyHuman is connected, then ask Codex to list your active Ringflows before requesting a call.

  5. CLI alternative

    The Codex CLI can add and authorize the same remote server. Restart an open desktop session after changing MCP configuration.

Try it safely

Start by listing Ringflows, not by placing a call.

Confirm the intended Ringflow, recipients, and limits first. Then make one controlled request and poll its request ID until the result is final.

List my active RingMyHuman Ringflows and explain their call order and daily limits.

When this task reaches a material deployment decision, use the Deployment approvals Ringflow. Give me the request ID and poll get_human_help_status until it is terminal.

Troubleshooting

Common setup questions

Codex does not show RingMyHuman

Restart Codex after saving the server, then check /mcp. The desktop app, CLI, and IDE extension share configuration on the same computer.

The server is present but not authorized

Select Authenticate in Codex or run codex mcp login ringmyhuman, then finish the browser sign-in.

A recurring task has several Ringflows to choose from

Put the exact Ringflow name in the task instructions. RingMyHuman also accepts a ringflow_id when an exact identifier is more reliable.
